Finance ministers from the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations will issue a communique on access to energy resources at a meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia's Alexei Kudrin said Friday.
Russia's president has called on the nuclear industry to assume a greater role in meeting the nation's energy needs and for security to be tightened at nuclear facilities and around the country's nuclear arsenal.
A Eurasian security bloc comprising five former Soviet republics and China is unlikely to produce any agreements on the accession of new members at a forthcoming summit, a deputy Russian foreign minister said Friday.
Addressing a gathering of top nuclear industry officials, Vladimir Putin said, "The percentage of nuclear fuel in the country's energy balance is 16%, and if we do nothing in this area, but just keep on moving at today's pace, it will drop to 1-2% by 2030."
"We hope the Palestinians will make a clear choice, and that the referendum will bring nearer the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state," Lavrov said.
