Organizers of the world record attempt said they were aiming to break the latest record, set in the United Arab Emirates, where a 9 x 12 m heat-resistant postcard was produced in May 2003 - coincidentally, the same month St. Petersburg celebrated its 300th anniversary - after nine months in the making.
The aspiring record-breaker measures an impressive 10 by 15 meters, and weighs 100 kilograms. It features a reproduction of a picture by two contemporary St. Petersburg-based artists showing a Russian sailor and his French sweetheart.
Anyone willing to contribute to the city's record bid has been invited to come to the Peter and Paul Fortress on Friday, June 23, to cover the giant card with personal messages to their loved ones.
Once completed, the letter will be put on display at St. Petersburg's postal museum.
