The new project, nicknamed the "Angels Service", aims to promote St. Petersburg's image as a civilized and hospitable European city.
"This is a mobile service set up to provide Russian and foreign tourists with highly effective information support," the source said.
Service employees will provide free recommendations to visitors on how to use city infrastructure, the best ways to their destinations, where to go on trips, how to make emergency calls and where they can use safe banking services, rent vehicles and go shopping.
The employees, mostly students aged under 25 who speak foreign languages, will work in pairs downtown and at tourist attractions. They will wear uniforms and will be equipped with cellphones, free leaflets and reference books.
