Moscow court rejects $7mln suit against aircraft-makers

MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - A Moscow court threw out a $7-million suit filed by Domodedovo Airlines against two aircraft makers, an airline spokesman said Friday.

The company was claiming 185.36 million rubles and $615,000 in losses from the Voronezh Aircraft Construction Company [VASO] and Ilyushin Aviation Complex after three Il-96-300 airliners were grounded last August-September after technical malfunctions were revealed.

A lawyer representing VASO said the suit was without foundation because the company had received no complaints since the planes were supplied to the airline in 1994-1999.

The Federal Service for the Oversight of Transportation suspended the use of the aircraft over manufacturing defects in the braking and hydraulic systems on August 22. The flight ban was lifted October 3 after the defects were fixed.

The court rejected a similar suit worth $744,000 against VASO by national air carrier Aeroflot last month.

The Il-96-300 is a long-range airliner capable of carrying up to 300 passengers and 40 metric tons of cargo.
