The law on the Russian Agricultural Census was adopted in 2005 and it requires holding a census every ten years. The last agricultural census was held in 1920.
"The census will help not only to determine the potential of agriculture, but also to find major problems and to work out an up-to-date and effective policy in agricultural sector," Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said.
The census will be held in most of the Russian regions from July 1 to July 25 and continue from September 15 to November 15 in remote northern regions where it is impossible to get by ground transportation in summer.
The total sum of money allocated for the census is 6.5 billion rubles ($241.26 million) and its preliminary results will be announced in the first quarter of 2007 and final results in 2008.
