MOSCOW, July 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's lower chamber of parliament passed a bill in the third and final reading Wednesday prohibiting a number of state officials from holding dual citizenship.
Under the law, individuals with dual citizenship cannot be members of Russia's parliament, the president, regional leaders or sit on the Security Council. They will also be banned from occupying senior posts in the Audit Chamber.
If MPs acquire dual citizenship and give up Russian citizenship, they will be stripped of their seats in parliament.
The officials will also be banned from holding residence permits or other documents allowing them to permanently reside abroad if the law goes onto the statute books.
