Bird flu situation in Russia under control - chief doctor
Topic: Bird flu
"Mass bird deaths in Tuva are under control; we are monitoring [the situation] and, fortunately, everything is positive," Gennady Onishchenko said.
Mass bird deaths were registered in the Republic of Tuva on the Russian-Mongolian border in late June.
Onishchenko also said the fight against infectious diseases was on the top of the agenda for the Group of Eight summit opening in St. Petersburg Saturday.
"This is the only topic concerning almost everyone in the world," he said.
He said G8 leaders would adopt a separate ten-page document on the issue that will cover improvements in the monitoring of infectious diseases.
Onishchenko said Russia proposed establishing a sub-regional monitoring center to develop bird flu prevention means.
