MOSCOW, August 3 (RIA Novosti) - A Moscow court rejected Thursday an appeal against the transfer of jailed oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky to a Siberian prison last October.

Khodorkovsky, whose oil company Yukos was declared bankrupt earlier this week, is currently serving an eight-year prison term in a penal colony in Krasnokamensk in the Far East region of Chita, near the Chinese border.

Defense lawyer Yury Shmidt filed appeals with several courts, claiming that the Federal Penitentiary Service's decision to send the former oligarch to Krasnokamensk was illegal, but all the appeals have been rejected.

In May 2005, the Moscow Meshchansky Court found Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev guilty of tax evasion and fraud, and sentenced both to nine years in a penal colony, a term that was later reduced to eight years.
