Ukraine's fuel and energy minister and the chief executive of Russia's natural gas giant Gazprom met in Moscow Wednesday to discuss gas cooperation, a company spokesman said. 
Russia will raise military spending by 70 billion rubles ($2.6 billion) in 2007, the finance minister said Wednesday. "Defense spending will increase primarily to meet army equipment needs," Alexei Kudrin said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. 
Ukraine's ambassador to Russia said Wednesday that the new prime minister, Viktor Yanukovych, will visit Moscow next week. "He will focus on economic issues," Oleg Diomin told reporters. 
Sukhoi's ambitious project to build the Russian Regional Jet, renamed the Sukhoi SuperJet-100 recently, has been implemented in cooperation with Boeing and a series of other foreign companies. But the Boeing official said the SuperJet would be unaffected as the U.S. concern only acted as an adviser to the project.
Russia will establish a state venture company by the end of October as part of efforts to diversify the economy and encourage investment in innovation, a senior economics ministry official said Wednesday.
