Preliminary reports suggest that a lightning strike caused the crash of a Russian airliner on Tuesday, in which all 171 people onboard died, Russian emergency services said. 
A Russian emergencies official said Tuesday Dutch nationals were onboard the Tu-154 plane that crashed in stormy weather in Ukraine while flying from Russia's resort city on the Black Sea to St Petersburg earlier in the day. 
All 171 passengers and crew on a Russian airliner were killed Tuesday afternoon when the plane crashed in stormy weather in eastern Ukraine. 
Three suspects detained over a bomb attack on a Moscow that killed 10 and injured 49 have confessed, prosecutor Yury Syomin said Tuesday. 
No one is believed to have survived the crash of a Russian airliner in Ukraine, emergency services in the country said Tuesday. A total of 171 passengers and crew, including 39 children, were believed to have been on board the Tu-154, which was flying from the Russian resort of Anapa on the Black Sea to St. Petersburg, Russia's second city. Its flight path took it over Ukraine, where it came down 45 kilometers (30 miles) north of the city of Donetsk in stormy weather. 
A thunderstorm rather than terrorism is thought to have caused a Russian airliner with 171 people on board to crash over Ukraine Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Russian emergencies services said. "A terrorist attack is ruled out," Irina Andriyanova said. "Ukrainian sources said the plane was caught in a thunderstorm." The St. Petersburg-based Pulkovo Airline said the passengers of the Tu-154 jet, the mainstay of the Russian air fleet, included 39 children under the age of 12 and six children under the age of two. 
Charges have been brought against three suspects in Monday's Moscow market bombing that killed 10 and left 49 injured, prosecutor Yury Syomin said Tuesday. The suspects were detained on the day of the bombing.

Russia's government will use economic measures to hold back the ruble's further rise, and intends to keep the national currency's appreciation within 4.7% of its average effective rate this year, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said Tuesday.

A senior member of Russia's lower chamber of parliament condemned Tuesday the seizure of a Russian tanker off the west coast of Africa. Earlier in the day the Primorye Shipping Company said armed men seized a Russian tanker with 19 Russians on board near Guinea.
