MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - The aviation security service at Russia's Domodedovo international airport and U.S. company SafeView have started testing a new generation scanner, SafeScout 100, the airport's managing company said Wednesday.

The company said the new scanner would eliminate the need for mandatory physical searches, introduced at Russian airports in October 2004.

"Each scan takes about two seconds," East Line said. "The whole process, including data analysis, takes about 10 seconds."

The scanner, whose technology is based on "radio-signal holographic imaging," is capable of detecting objects made of metal, wood, ceramic, plastic and other materials on the human body. The device emits waves harmless to humans.
