President Vladimir Putin said on June 27 that supporting and protecting the rights of Russians abroad remains one of the priorities for Russia's foreign policy.
"This is a question of our humanitarian and economic national interests," Putin said.
The forum in St. Petersburg will gather about 600 leaders and activists from various organizations that support Russians residing in former Soviet republics and foreign countries, the ministry said in a statement.
"The participants of the Congress will discuss urgent issues concerning our compatriots abroad, including strengthening of their ties with Russia, preservation of Russian-speaking traditions, support and protection of legitimate rights and interests, and also Russia's assistance in voluntarily repatriation of emigrants," the statement said.
