The city celebrated the 859th anniversary of its foundation with parades and fireworks on the weekend, but culinary buffs intend to make their contribution to the festivities with a pizza measuring six meters (19.6 feet) in diameter and covering an area of 22 square meters (238 sq. feet).
The edible "map" will feature famous sights, including the Kremlin, Vorobyovy Gory hills with a platform overlooking the capital and a ski jump, the Moskva River, and new sprawling communities outside the Ring Road around the city.
It will be exactly 1/50,000,000 of the capital's total area.
Celebrities, including wildlife program anchorman Nikolai Drozdov, Russia's most outspoken feminist and writer Maria Arbatova, world-famous artist Nikas Safronov and rock musician Maxim Pokrovsky, have been invited to participate in the cooking process.
Moscow was first mentioned in chronicles in 1147. Although the main celebrations took place Saturday, concerts, exhibitions and other events to mark the anniversary are still under way in the capital.
