MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's chief doctor, Gennady Onishchenko, said Thursday the spread of flu in Russia will reach its highest point in October-December.
"We forecast a rise in flu cases among Russians in October, November and December," Onishchenko said. "I would like to emphasize that we have made 22 million doses of the anti-flu vaccine this year already."
Dozens of millions of people in Russia contract flu and other respiratory diseases, which often have serious complications, affecting the lungs, heart and vascular system, every year.
Vaccination, propagated as the only effective way of fighting the disease, has become increasingly popular, particularly among residents of large cities. Anti-flu vaccines help deter the infection or alleviate the run of the disease and prevent complications.
Last year, Russia did not experience a major flu outbreak, but cases were reported from September into May.
