MOSCOW, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Police in northwest Russia have detained six members of an ultranationalist organization on suspicion of involvement in desecrating Jewish and Tatar cemeteries earlier this month, the Interior Ministry said Wednesday.

The detainees, affiliated with the extremist Russian National Unity group, are believed to have destroyed more than 100 graveyards, and scattered leaflets with racist content in the cemeteries in Tver, about 100 miles northwest of Moscow, on October 2. They face charges of inciting racial and religious hatred.

A ministry spokesman said the suspects, all aged under 26, have admitted to taking part in the cemetery desecration, and that the group's leader has also "confessed to committing two murders and several violent attacks."
