Prof Media buys Rambler TV channel for $23 million
Osgora Productions, 100% of whose shares are owned by Prof Media, bought the station.
"The sale of the television station is due to Rambler Media's desire to concentrate its efforts on the development of its Internet business that now brings the company most of its revenues. All funds received from the sale of the station will be used to develop this key direction," Rambler Media said.
Rambler's activity is focused in three directions: Internet, mobile content and television. The group comprises a Web portal and the Rambler.ru search engine, an information Web site, an Internet provider, an advertising agency, and a group of mobile technology and content companies.
Prof Media signed the deal to expand the broadcasting network for the 2x2 television station, a spokesman said earlier.
"2x2 will broadcast in St. Petersburg on Rambler's frequency," Konstantin Vorontsov said.
Prof Media bought 2x2, broadcasting for Moscow and its region in early 2006.
Rambler started broadcasting in 2003. Its programs are transmitted to almost 500 cities in Russia.
