Heavy snow snarls traffic at Russian-Finnish border
13:54 03/11/2006
HELSINKI, November 3 (RIA Novosti) - Major snowfall has caused a 40-kilometer traffic jam at the Finnish-Russian border that will take days to clear, the Russian border service said Friday.
In addition to the heavy snowfall, fallen trees have also contributed to the traffic tie-up at the Vaalimaa-Torfyanovka border crossing point, the service said.
The service said another jam has developed at the Nuijamaa-Brusnichnoye border crossing point, with Russian trucks bound for Finland backed up for 20 kilometers.
It said the problem has been aggravated by power cuts caused by the snowstorm.
