MOSCOW, December 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow City Court upheld Wednesday an amnesty for an architect blamed for the collapse of a water park in Moscow in 2004, rejecting a protest from survivors of the tragedy, a lawyer representing them said.

The roof of Transvaal Park, in southern Moscow, caved in February 14, 2004, in a heavy snowfall, leaving 28 people dead and more than 100 injured.

Moscow prosecutors said at the time that architect Nodar Kancheli's design was to blame for the accident, but charges were dropped in early September under the terms of a parliamentary amnesty.

The architect, who maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, was also questioned after another building he designed - Moscow's Basmanny market - collapsed in February, killing at least 60 people.
