MAKHACHKALA, January 3 (RIA Novosti) - One attacker has been killed and a policeman and two passersby have been injured in a shootout in the capital of the North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the local police said Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the center of Makhachkala at 5:30 p.m. Moscow time (2:30 p.m. GMT) when patrol police stopped a car for inspection, the press office of the Dagestani interior ministry said.
During the inspection and the verification of documents, two men ran out of the car and tried to escape. While retreating, they opened fire at the police. The policemen started to chase them, the press office said.
During the shootout, one attacker was killed and the second wounded but he managed to escape, the press office said.
One policeman and two passersby received light injuries, the press office said.
Measures have been launched to find and apprehend the second attacker, the press office said.
