North Caucasus policeman kills wife, daughter in family quarrel

MAKHACHKALA, January 22 (RIA Novosti) - A traffic police officer in the North Caucasus republic of Daghestan killed his wife and daughter by throwing grenades and firing a rifle during a family quarrel, a spokeswoman for the local Interior Ministry said Monday.

Anzhela Martirosova said Lieutenant Colonel Abdula Abdullayev tossed two hand grenades into one of the rooms of his house where his family was gathered. He then took a hunting rifle and shot his 47-year-old wife and 25-year-old daughter.

The spokeswoman said his 26-year-old son, 22-year-old daughter and a son-in-law were injured in the incident and were hospitalized.

Abdullayev was found dead in the garden of his house with shrapnel wounds from the grenade explosions, she said, adding that he bled to death.
