MOSCOW, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's upper house of parliament, the Federation Council, approved Wednesday a federal law on moving the Constitutional Court from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

The previous text of the law was rejected by the Federation Council December 27, a week after it was endorsed by the State Duma, the lower house of Russia's parliament, on a third reading.

The new version of the federal law, which fixes the Court's right to hold visiting sessions whenever the need occurs, was approved by 147 senators, with two votes against and one abstention.

The law must be signed by the Russian president to come into effect.
