KRASNOYARSK, February 2 (RIA Novosti) - Prosecutors have arrested a deputy head and a male nurse at a Siberian orphanage for the disabled on suspicion of extorting the children's government pensions by causing them bodily harm.
Prosecutors said the children were entitled to monthly pensions, 75% of which was transferred to the orphanage and the remainder given to the children as pocket money.
The arrested officials are suspected of extorting the remaining 25% from the children, and one of the suspects allegedly collected 20,000 rubles ($750), saying he would buy furniture for the orphanage, prosecutors said.
A medical examination of the children revealed signs of violence, numerous bruises and deep scratches.
