KALININGRAD, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - An organized crime police officer was wounded when gunmen opened fire on his car in central Kaliningrad, Russia's Baltic exclave, local police said Tuesday.
"The police car of Dmitry Malikov, first deputy chief of the local organized crime department, came under automatic gunfire when he was driving home at about 19.30 local time [17.30 GMT]," Vyacheslav Bogutsky, chief spokesman for the regional police, said.
He said the officer sustained several gunshot wounds but managed to leave the site, and drove to his office, from where he was rushed to hospital and underwent an operation. Doctors say his condition is stable.
Police have launched an inquiry into the attack and have offered a substantial reward for help in finding the assailants.
