MOSCOW, February 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian government has passed a resolution on establishing four special economic zones for tourism and recreation, the government's press office said Wednesday.
Under the document, tourism and recreation zones will be established in Russia's westernmost Kaliningrad Region, the Irkutsk Region in East Siberia, the Krasnodar Region in the country's south and the Altai Republic in southwest Siberia.
The tourism and recreation zones are intended to help regional development and attract investment.
The resolution authorizes the economics ministry to conclude, on behalf of the Russian government, agreements with these regions on establishing tourism and recreation zones on their territory, the press office said.
Last year, the government also passed a law establishing special gambling zones in a bid to rid cities of casinos and other gambling venues.
