The gunmen were killed in a private dwelling in a special operation, which left a police officer wounded. Police also confiscated an automatic weapon and a pistol from the scene.
Another two people who left the surrounded house just prior to the operation have also been detained, and police are investigating their possible involvement as well as the role of the house owner, police spokeswoman Anzhela Martirosova said.
Being a neighbor of Chechnya, Daghestan still suffers from a spillover of violence in the troubled republic, which remains disrupted by sporadic bombings and clashes between gunmen and federal troops, even though the active phase of the North Caucasus antiterrorism campaign officially ended in 2001.
A major terrorist attack on Daghestan occurred on Victory Day of May 9 in 2002 when a blast killed 43 people during a military parade.
