Leonid Reiman told a news conference at the IT exhibition CeBIT-2007 in Hanover, Germany, that on the whole, the volume of Russia's IT market grew 20% in 2006, year-on-year, to exceed 1,161 billion rubles ($44 billion).
Reiman said that in 2006, the number of permanent Internet users totaled 25.1 million people, against 21.8 million in 2005.
He also said each 100 residents will have 43 computers by 2010, instead of 16 now, and added the number of Internet users will grow from 17 to 45% by that time.
Russia's deputy prime minister, Sergei Naryshkin, said Thursday that the international community chose Russia as a partner country for CeBIT-2007, which is being held from March 15 to 21, and that it means that Russian achievements in the IT sphere have been recognized.
While opening Russia's exposition in Hanover Thursday, he said: "Today, Russia is not only a reliable strategic partner for many countries in the energy sector, but also a country which can claim significant achievements in high technology."
