MOSCOW, June 13 (RIA Novosti) - More than 20 pounds of heroin has been seized from a Tajik national outside Moscow, a narcotics police spokesman said Wednesday.
"During an inspection of a Zhiguli automobile next to a filling station on the Baltiya highway, Interior Ministry officers and local police seized 9.8 kilos (21.5 pounds) of heroin from a Tajik national," the spokesman said. "The driver was a resident of the Smolensk region."
An initial investigation suggests the man was a courier for an organized criminal gang.
