MOSCOW, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Audit Chamber will carry out a planned auditing check of railway monopoly Russian Railways (RZD) in 2007, the chamber's chairman said Thursday.
Sergei Stepashin said the Audit Chamber plans to carry out checks on oil pipeline operator Transneft and energy giant Gazprom [RTS: GAZP] next year.
"We'll check, among other things, Gazprom's non-core business spending. Gazprom has assumed a lot of social obligations, and this is very important. But I believe it is better to carry out all such operations through the company's budget," he said.
The audit of Gazprom is scheduled for April-May 2008 and is carried out every three years as a planned check.
Stepashin said the chamber audited Russian state-controlled oil giant Rosneft last year and found its performance "satisfactory" and "quite efficient."
