The Rolling Stones to give one-off Russian concert July 28
The band launched A Bigger Bang Tour, the biggest-selling concert tour of all time, in Belgium June 5. Arrangements for their sole performance in Russia, to be staged in proximity to the world-famous Hermitage Museum, have been coordinated with Hermitage Director Mikhail Piotrovsky.
It will take six days to install the necessary equipment for a two-hour concert that is expected to draw 40,000 spectators.
The Rolling Stones planned to perform in St. Petersburg in June 2006, but the concert was cancelled when guitarist Keith Richards' suffered a mild concussion after falling from a coconut tree in Fiji.
Formed in London in 1962, The Rolling Stones eventually was led by the songwriting partnership of singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards.
During their 1969 American tour, the Stones were introduced and have often since been referred to as "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World." The Rolling Stones have released 55 albums, and have sold over 200 million albums worldwide.
