MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - The case of a suspected Moscow pedophile has been passed on to a Moscow court, a spokesman for the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department said Monday.

"Police officers detained a 33-year-old Moscow resident early this year in [Moscow's southern] Yuzhnoye Butovo district. He is charged with forcing 24 boys into sexual acts from 2004 to 2007," he said.

Investigators said the man, who was known to sell candles and religious literature in a church shop in downtown Moscow, would get acquainted with teenagers in different districts of the capital and would lure them into his home.

"At home, either for money or by threatening them with physical violence, he forced children into acts of a sexual nature or sexual intercourse, and photographed the children naked," the spokesman said, adding that many photos of naked boys and videos containing child pornography were found during a search of his home.

It was also established that the detainee underwent treatment in a psychiatric clinic in 2003, with the diagnosis "oligophrenia," or mental retardation. When tested by psychiatrists and psychologists, he was found sane.
