NAZRAN, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - A police officer was killed in a shootout in the Nazran area, Ingushetia's principal city, a police source said Friday.
"The shootout occurred at about 12.00 a.m. Moscow time (8.00 a.m. GMT) in Yandare village. Preliminary reports say one policeman was killed", the source said.
Further details of the incident were not given.
There are frequent attacks on policemen and soldiers in the Republic of Ingushetia in Russia's North Caucasus border with Georgia.
On Wednesday law enforcement officers said a Russian soldier was killed when a column of troops came under fire in the southern province of the republic.
