MOSCOW, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - Over 1.6 million foreign tourists visited Moscow in the first half of 2007, 15% more than in the same period of 2006, the head of the city's tourism committee said Monday.

The capital's economy receives $4 billion annually from foreign tourists, with each spending an average of $900 during their stay, Moscow Tourism Committee Chairman Grigory Antyufeev told journalists.

The highest tourist numbers have come from Germany, the Unites States, China, Britain, Italy, France, Japan, and Spain.

"In the last five years, tourists and other guests from Germany have ranked first among foreigners visiting Moscow," he said.

The committee chairman said the number of foreigners visiting Moscow annually is expected to increase to around five million by 2010.
