20:26 09/10/2007
MOSCOW, October 9 (RIA Novosti) - Christie's will auction Russian jewelry valued at more than $40 million in Geneva on November 15, a spokesman for the auction house said on Tuesday.
"The items will include large gems and interesting historic jewels," the spokesman told RIA Novosti.
The auction in Switzerland will feature a special Russian jewel section for the first time, he said. The section will comprise 15 unique jewels, including two 18th century items, which belonged to the Russian royal family and were sold by the Soviet government in 1927 - amethyst and diamond earrings, and an eagle-shaped brooch.
Items made by Gustav Faberge and Carl Bolin, as well as other lesser-known Russian jewelers, will also go under the hammer, along with items from the collection of Katharina Henckel von Donnersmarck, a German countess of Russian origin.
