GROZNY, November 29 (RIA Novosti) - A law enforcement officer was found dead in the capital of the troubled North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, a local police source said.
"A body of a police officer was discovered late Tuesday. A preliminary search of the crime scene established that the officer was shot in the head," the source reported, adding that the assailants had not taken the policeman's service weapon.
The incident is being investigated, the source said.
Despite the November 10 announcement by Ruslan Alkhanov, Chechnya's interior minister, that attacks on law enforcement officers had decreased 6.4% so far this year compared to the same period of last year, there are frequent reports of assaults on policemen and interior troops, including terrorist attacks.
