The work on the program started in 2006 with the creation of regional centers that gather and process information on air traffic from various military and civilian sources, including the Defense Ministry and Federal Air Navigation Service.
"The implementation of this program will be completed by 2010," said Lieutenant General Anatoly Boyarintsev, commander of Air Force's Radiotechnical Troops.
"Russia has so far allocated 4.5 billion rubles (over $183 million) for this program," the general said.
He also said that the future integrated radar system would incorporate an information exchange network of 13 air traffic control centers on Russian territory, including in Moscow, Rostov-on-Don and Kaliningrad, Russia's exclave in the Baltic.
"Their future integration will enhance the safety of air traffic in Russia's airspace," Boyarintsev said.
