NIZHNI NOVGOROD, December 24 (RIA Novosti) - A national nuclear university will be established as part of a project to set up Rosatom, the state nuclear power corporation, Russia's nuclear chief Sergei Kiriyenko said on Monday.

"The national nuclear university will be based at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute," Kiriyenko said, after a conference with the management of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov, in the Volga area.

The plan to set up a new educational institution was first voiced by First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov and has already been coordinated with the Russian Education Ministry.

Kiriyenko, who pledged to complete structural changes in the Russian nuclear sector by March 1, 2008, said a development program for the university would be developed in the first quarter of 2008.

"We still have to finish restructuring the nuclear sector, we will spend another two months on that, and I believe that all the organizational reforms in the sector will be accomplished by March 1, 2008," he said.

On December 3, President Vladimir Putin signed into law a bill on state nuclear power corporation Rosatom and appointed Kiriyenko to head the corporation in mid-December. The corporation will be formed on the basis of the Russian Federal Nuclear Power Agency (Rosatom) to incorporate all civilian and military nuclear facilities and enterprises.
