"On Thursday, December 27 in central St. Petersburg we will hold a rally against luxury. This will be an attempt to change the current system of values," a spokesman for St. Petersburg anti-globalists said.
The spokesman added that the owner, who often parks his Hummer vehicle in the centre of the city, had kindly agreed to allow his car to be attacked.
"Luxury represents, in our opinion, a false set of values, clouding our eyes to modern society. Advertising posters, light entertainment programs and cunning marketing convince us that making purchases and becoming rich is the main value in our lives. World society...strives towards money more than self-development and an enjoyment of the great happiness of life on our planet," the spokesman said.
There are currently over 100,000 dollar-millionaires in Russia, where the average salary, despite the current oil boom, remains low, at some $500 a month.
According to the business magazine Forbes, 14 of the world's richest people are Russian. Their wealth is equal to approximately 26% of Russia's GDP. In comparison, the wealth of the 39 richest American citizens is equal to a mere 4.6% of the GDP of the U.S.
