MOSCOW, February 27 (RIA Novosti) - A frantic St. Petersburg driver was forced to chase after a tow truck that had driven away with his illegally-parked car - with his eight-year-old son still inside - Russian media said on Wednesday.
After the engine of his VAZ 2110 sedan had overheated, Vitaly Maryin decided to briefly leave his car near a shop and buy some water for the engine cooling system.
When he came back shortly afterwards, however, he saw his car being driven away by a tow truck. His petrified son, Yegor, thought the vehicle was being carjacked.
When the father finally located his car, he had to pay about 4,000 rubles ($164) for its release.
Vitaly filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against the traffic policeman involved. Vitaly's lawyer said the authorities had no legal right to haul away a car with a child inside, even if it was illegally parked.
