NOVOSIBIRSK, March 12 (RIA Novosti) - Two robbers have taken a pet Chihuahua from an 80 year-old woman in the city of Novosibirsk in west Siberia, police said on Wednesday.
The woman said that she was attacked by two men, aged 20-25, in the entranceway of her apartment building late on Tuesday.
The pooch is most likely to have been stolen for resale, as lap dogs have become increasingly popular in Russia.
The Chihuahua, the smallest dog in the world, is in the top five of the most popular toy dog breeds in Russia, and is said to be the perfect pet for busy and elderly people. Prices can top $5,000, depending on the dog's size and pedigree.
