MOSCOW, March 12 (RIA Novosti) - A man who tricked police in central Moscow into believing his car was rigged with explosives faces three years in jail, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday night a black Hyundai Accent was circling round Lubyanka Square, where the Federal Security Service (FSB) headquarters is located. When stopped by traffic police and asked for ID, the driver said his car was full of explosives and threatened to detonate them.

It took about two hours for FSB officers to negotiate with the driver, before he surrendered and left his car. No explosives were discovered in the vehicle.

The spokesman said the man, a resident of the Moscow Region, would be charged with giving a fake report of a possible terrorist attack, and that if found guilty he would face up to three years in prison.
