DAMASCUS, March 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Syria have signed an agreement on easing visa requirements for some categories of citizens from both countries.

The news was announced after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Syrian counterpart, Walid Al-Moallem, in Damascus on Wednesday as part of a three-day tour of the Middle East.

The agreement stipulates that Russians holding diplomatic and business passports will be able to stay in Syria without a visa for up to 30 days. The document will enter into force in a month's time.

During his Middle East tour, Lavrov is also expected to visit Israel and the West Bank to discuss ongoing rocket attacks against the Jewish state by Palestinian militants, and Israeli raids against Palestinians.
