Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika spoke Friday in favor of the establishment of a unified investigation committee in the country.
MOSCOW, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika spoke Friday in favor of the establishment of a unified investigation committee in the country.

"I have always been a supporter of a unified investigation committee," said Yury Chaika, adding that there was currently conflict between investigating officers and the prosecutors who supervised their activities.

Chaika said the conflict was in particular due to a lack of legal mechanisms backing up prosecutors' powers to supervise the work of investigators. "For example, an investigating officer does not have to give the prosecutor the materials in a criminal case for verification," he said.

The Investigation Committee under the Russian Prosecutor General's office was established in September 2007.
