MOSCOW, March 31 (RIA Novosti) - Alcohol advertisements will be removed from Moscow's metro stations by May 1, a spokeswoman for the city's advertising and information committee said on Monday.

Advertising liquor on transport is currently permitted under Russian law, but on Wednesday the State Duma is to consider a bill which proposes a ban on such ads in all transport facilities, including bus stops, railway stations and airports.

The agreement to remove advertisements of alcoholic drinks was reached during talks between the committee and the Moscow metro's advertising monopoly, Olimp.

"By May 1 all previously concluded contracts will expire or will be revoked before the term ends and all advertisements of spirits will be removed" the company said in a press release.
