MAKHACHKALA, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - A road-side explosion killed a passer by on a highway in Makhachkala, the capital of the Russian southern republic of Daghestan, early on Wednesday, a local police spokesman said.
"An UAZ vehicle carrying patrol officers was due to pass along the road, so the bomb was probably targeted at them. According to preliminary reports, a passer by was killed," the spokesman said.
An investigation is underway.
This is the second attack on police in the past 12 hours. A blast targeted a police vehicle in the town of Khasavyurt, west of Makhachkala, late on Tuesday. No one was hurt.
