BEIJING, April 10 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti signed a groundbreaking deal for the sale of its news services to Chinese subscribers on Thursday.
Readers in the world's most populous country will now be able to access RIA Novosti's economic newswire in Chinese under an agreement with China Economic Information Service, an authorized agent of the Xinhua news agency, which controls information distributed by foreign media in the country.
RIA Novosti initially received permission to sell its information services in China in 2007. Today's agreement is the second mandatory step before sales can begin.
