Militant leader killed in Daghestan special operation

MAKHACHKALA, April 13 (RIA Novosti) - A militant leader was killed in a special operation in Daghestan in southern Russia, the local security service said on Sunday.
Ismail Yangizbiyev was on the federal wanted list for committing several acts of terrorism against police. The militant was found and destroyed in the Khasavyurt district in western Daghestan early on Sunday, the security service said.
There have been no casualties among the federal troops, the security service said.
Although the active phase of the antiterrorism campaign in the North Caucasus officially ended in 2001, periodic bombings and clashes between militants and federal troops still disrupt Chechnya and nearby regions, including Daghestan and Ingushetia.
