MOSCOW, May 1 (RIA Novosti) - Bags containing a total of over $55,000 have been stolen from the cars of two businessmen in Moscow in separate incidents, police said Thursday.

A police spokesman said a bag containing 369,000 rubles ($15,600) was stolen in downtown Moscow from a Nissan car driven by the director of a Greek company, and 950,000 rubles ($40,150) was stolen in the southeast of the city from a Land Cruiser owned by a Russian company's financial director.

The thieves escaped in Mercedes and BMW cars. A search for them is underway.

Thieves often steal bags from cars parked or waiting at traffic lights in Moscow and other big Russian cities. In one such recent case, two people on a motorcycle stole a handbag from a woman's car in Moscow. However, the audacious woman did not want to part with her belongings, and she caught up with them, crashed into their bike and claimed back her bag.
