State defense co. reports 17% rise in 2007 sales to $1.6 bln

MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - Defense company Oboronprom, a subsidiary of Russia's state arms export monopoly RosOboronExport, said on Wednesday its sales increased 17% year-on-year in 2007 to 38.86 billion rubles ($1.6 billion).

The company said the largest sales were posted by the Rostvertol plant in southern Russia (7.2 billion rubles), the Kazan helicopter plant in the Volga republic of Tatarstan, (6.7 billion rubles), and the Ulan Ude aircraft plant in Siberia's Buryat Republic (5.6 billion rubles).

"A total of 120 helicopters were delivered to customers in 2007 (taking into accounts upgrades and modernizations), compared with 108 in 2006. The enterprises have a portfolio of orders until 2010," the company said.

The holding's units producing missile defense and electronic warfare systems reported 3.5 billion ruble sales (2.3 billion in 2006), leasing enterprises 962 million rubles (661 million in 2006), and electro-technical machine manufacturing enterprises 2.4 billion rubles (2.1 billion in 2006).
