MOSCOW, May 27 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Communist Party has filed a lawsuit with the Russian Supreme Court challenging the legality of last December's parliamentary elections in Russia, a party official said on Tuesday.

The Communists, who won 57 seats in the 450-seat Russian parliament, requested the court overrule the election results, announced by the Central Election Committee, saying that they had been falsified by the ruling United Russia party.

Vadim Solovyov, the head of the party's legal department, said that the claims included "discrimination against the Russian Communist Party and other participants in the election on behalf of United Russia by the media."

Solovyov said that the case material offered to back up the Communist Party claims is enormous and a separate vehicle was required to deliver them to court as the boxes with the documents weighed over 30 kg (66 lbs).
