MOSCOW, September 9 (RIA Novosti) - Two police officers were killed and another wounded after their car came under fire in the southern Russian republic of Daghestan on Tuesday, a police source said.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight (20:00 Monday GMT), when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the police car. The third officer has been hospitalized with a neck injury.
An investigation has been launched into the attack.
In neighboring Chechnya, several police officers were wounded on Monday after a roadside bomb went off in the Shalinsky District. Two of them were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Although the active phase of all-out counter-terrorist operations in Chechnya ended more than four years ago, clashes with small militant groups continue on a regular basis in the North Caucasus region.
